Here are some of our favorites, in alphabetical order. Please remember, even if you don’t live in their city, these stores all conduct thriving online/mail order business.

 

a Real Bookstore is the community destination for booklovers in the North-Dallas/McKinney area of Texas. They offer a thoughtful and locally edited assortment of books and book-related products designed to satisfy the customer’s passion for reading and learning. They are dedicated to being a community focal point, offering a sense of connection and discovery through store events, service and selection. B&B News & More in the Dallas, Texas ”Galleria” at 13350 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX, 75240 carries Saving Grace. Pick up a copy when you’re shopping at one of the premier malls in the United States.

How cute is Blue Willow Book Store, in the Memorial area of Houston?? A life-long reader, owner Valerie Koehler opened Blue Willow Bookshop in October 1996. At Blue Willow Bookshop you can find an eclectic selection of books (fiction and nonfiction) for both adults and children – something for everyone, with lots of personal favorite books that customers and staff have recommended as the BEST READ EVER.  Blue Willow Bookshop also carries many puzzles, games, and gifts for the book lover.

With Valerie (or Girlboss, as her staff calls her) at the helm, Blue Willow Bookshop, located on Memorial Drive at Dairy Ashford, has become known as a step back in time to the old neighborhood shop, where neighbors gather to talk books and share news.  They offer personalized service, shipping and free gift wrap.

 

Book Nook In Brenham, Texas, this new/used/bargain book store is the bees knees. Check them out and stop for a tour of the Blue Bell Ice Cream manufacturing facility.

BookPeople has been Texas’ leading independent bookstore since 1970. Located in the heart of downtown, BookPeople has been voted best bookstore in Austin for over 15 years. The rest of the country has caught on too; BookPeople was voted Bookstore of the Year by Publisher’s Weekly in 2005. With visits from some of the most interesting and important authors of the past 35 years, as well as by Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, BookPeople is the destination bookstore in Texas.

The Book Spot in Georgetown, TX is run by husband and wife team Danny and Julie and a favorite of locals. They urge you to live well, laugh much, and read often. If you’re in the north Austin-area, check them out at 1205 Round Rock Ave #119 Round Rock, TX 78681.

Books, Lines and Thinkers is the only full-service bookstore in Rangeley featuring solid collections of new and used national bestsellers, Maine and New England titles, children’s and classic & contemporary literature, as well as an eclectic music selection of CDs and cassettes, tasteful notecards and postcards.

Crystal’s Children and Teacher Supply With locations in Houston and Sugarland, Texas, this educator-owned and operated store specializes in products for teachers, homeschoolers, and parents looking for educational resources and games for their children.

DeLeon Connections offers books and more for friends and patrons in DeLeon, Texas. Stop by for a cold drink and browse their charming selections.

 

Dockside Bookshop: Located in the heart of the Charlotte Amalie waterfront on St. Thomas in the beautiful US Virgin Islands, you can find this gem of a store at 9006 Havensight Shopping Center Ste C, Charlotte Amalie, VI 00802

 

The Gretna Public Library at 736 South Street in Omaha Nebraska proudly offers its patrons SkipJack Publishing books. Thanks GPL!

 

Hastings Entertainment With more than 130 stores nationwide, Hastings delivers entertainment in every media format to its customers.

 

 

Katy Budget Books is a one of a kind community bookstore that’s been open for over 25 years. They have a huge selection of new and used books and they do sales at the store, and online. They are a longtime supporter of indie authors, such as the author of Eragon, Christopher Paolini “back in the day.” Stop by and support this venerable independent, and tell them we sent you.

 

 

Learning RX Located at Buffalo Speedway & Highway 59 in central Houston, Learning RX offers tutoring billed as “Train the Brain.” Here’s one of their students, pictured above.

This neighborhood bike store in Houston has expanded to 9000 square feet in its awesome new location, where owners Adam and Danny can meet all your bicycling needs and more, including carrying cool books on cycling-related topics, like Hot Flashes and Half Ironmans. Check out PLANETARY CYCLES.

 

The Rangeley Public Libary in Rangeley, ME is a fantastic library with a beautiful outdoor garden reading area. You can check them out for free when visiting this quaint town on pictureque Rangeley Lake.

River Oaks Bookstore is located at Westheimer near Kirby in Houston, TX. It has been in continuous operation under private ownership for 38 years, and it’s the only privately owned bookstore in Houston that can claim such success.  Stop in for owner Jeanne Jard’s personal selections and assistance.

Houston Cycling Centres is family owned and operated for 35 years. They are home of Southwest Cyclery, Northwest Cyclery, and Spring Valley Bicycles. Stop by for their great selection of all things bicycling, and while you’re there, pick up a great book on women’s health and triathlon!

 

 

Looking for a neighborhod runnng store to meet all your fitness needs? Look no further than Spark Running Store in Severna Park, Maryland. Spark is locally owned and operated and has the ability to do full gait analysis onsite. While you’re there, pick up a copy of Hot Flashes and Half Ironmans, and tell them SkipJack Publishing sent you!

Just For Her Sports  A sporting goods store with a big online business for female athletes of all ages, featuring hundreds of girl’s and women’s sporting good items including: quality accessories, apparel, books, T-shirts, videos and gifts at affordable prices. We’re lucky to have one in Bellaire, Texas.

Undercover Books is a super cool indie bookstore on St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands, and carrier of SkipJack Publishing books. When you visit America’s Paradise, be sure to check it out.

 

Vroman’s Bookstore: Open for business since 1894, this indie bookstore in Pasadena, CA is enormous and amazing. It’s worth the trip, even if you’re not there to shop for SkipJack books! They ship, and they do sell gift cards, too.

 

The Yankee Bookshop: Vermont’s oldest continuously operated independent bookshop first opened in November 1935 and has been serving Woodstock and the surrounding towns for 76 years. Susan Morgan, Yankee Bookshop’s owner and steward, continues the Shop’s tradition of serving the literary needs of the community. The shelves are stocked with current best sellers, international authors, literary newcomers and perennial favorites.
